This is a revised class which used to be called anthropomorphic critters. Welllll...that was just
too hard to spell and say so now we are Creatures and Critters. Above you will find some
pictures of old and new critters that we have made. We are teaching this class at CREATE
in Costa Mesa and we are really excited about it. We are hoping everybody comes with
ideas for fantasy creatures. This class will teach you about armatures which are the most
important part of any sculpture. We are using Paverpol and fabric(natural fabrics) so that
the sculpture will be very hard and stable.

Olive is made with Paverpol. Her feathers are cotton tape on wire painted with Paverpol.
She was spray painted with Copic Markers.

Since the theme of A&S this year is "In the Garden", Ty and I developed another Paverpol class called Big Bloomz...These are HUGE Flowers...Like Stargazer Lillies on Steroids.
You can make any floer you want.the following flowers are shown with the normal size

We have been teaching this class and loving it!! The students make the most incredible,creative birds on the planet....oh to see a bird like the ones our students are making.The creativity in this class is endless...you will enjoy it so much. Ty has designed

the class so that the stand comes apart to fit into a suitcase for the people that fly.

"Steampunk and Milagro Class

This is a new class we are really going to have fun with. You will make molds of milagros,
gears, filigree objects, things that represent the steampunk genre. You will make many molds
with 2 part silicone, press molds finished in 15 to 20 minutes. You can use the molds for
the metal which we will be using, but you can also use the same molds and use poly clay,

PMC, aves epoxy, paperclay, plaster and plastic. Below are some pictures:

Hi...Ty and I are so excited about Portland...lots of new classes, new teachers and very
exciting techniques...I can hardly wait. We are giving a rundown of the classes we are teaching at Art and Soul. Hurry and register...the retreat is from September 26 to October 2.
Below are pictures of our "All About Resin Class" We are going to work on making journal
covers or art pieces,resin papers,resin fabric and pouring ring bezels. We will be using different clear resins. The samples are showing our covers/art pieces:

Vegas class "Poppin' Up" formally Alternative Journalling

We are teaching this class at ART AND SOUL in Las Vegas in february-march.Originally
Alternative Journalling was the name of the class but we changed it to "Poppin' Up". It will encompass all of the features we wrote for Alternative Journaling but we decided on making a concertina or "accordian" book with a bi-fold cover to put all of our pop-ups, pockets,flip ups, a mini journal and a flag journal. New Pictures for Day of the Dead class

These are some new pictures for our Day of the Dead Head class. We are teaching this
in New Orleans. The mosaic tiles are all made of resin paper, which is quite a bit easier
to work with than ceramic tiles...we love this class, as you can go so outside the box

and the head can be decorated as Egyptian, Mexican etc.

rose is Ty's. We are getting more experience with crayons because we keep buying
coloring books for our grandkids....we make them color whether they want to or

not or they have to sit on the naughty step!!

Here is my Sponge Bob Collection...Tell me why I am into Sponge Bob??? We also have
some pictures of a few of our special " things"...Do you think that I am a hoarder?
I am beginning to worry...I watched the hoarder program ( a few times) and this
woman couldn't throw anything away, so I am beginning to think that I may become
her roommate!! I always think if I throw something away I will need it for making
some of our art assemblages...am I turning into Michael de Menge?

Ty and I have been busy trying to develop some new classes. I would rather be making
art but that won't pay the bills. I had Ty take some pictures of our studio...this
is just a sample because we are busy building more cupboards and shelves. We like to
fill our studio with things that inspire our muse. I have been collecting some Sponge
Bob things...don't ask me why, it is the weirdest, dumbest cartoon/image of all time.
I don't understand myself...I just get these wild instincts and desires...

This radio interview was done on June 21 by Lesley Riley. She has become the new interviewer for the Art and Soul Blog Radio...I sounded kind of gorky but I think
it went quite well. Ty sounded better, quite professorial...I realized that I kept
saying "you know"...I sounded like the "Valley girl queen". It was fun and Lesley
is so good at interviewing...sh is perfect for this job.

We will be teaching big Birds at Art and Soul in Portland in October...
Ty created a stand and legs that come apart so that the Birdz can
be packed in a suitcase. We brought our large Pelican home to Vancouver in a soft
large duffle bag...so if you are going to Art and Soul in Portland you can get your
bird home safely...also they are very light..NO CEMENT BLOCK STAND...

WOW...The glitz and bling in Vegas is astounding for us lil' ole' hicks from Canada!
We had a fabulous time and even more fabulous classes. We taught "Something to Crow About" and "Anthropomorphic Critters"...We had the absolutely most talented students.
They are Paverpol classes and everyone at least finished the basics and could take
them home to paint with acrylics. I am including Photos of our students work.
We are teaching "Big Birdz" and "Something to Crow About" and "Mold-making 101" in

We are showing some new classes that we will be teaching ...We are so excited about
this new material Paverpol which is an acrylic polymer emulsion that you impregnate
in cotton or wool and when it dries it is hard and when painted with varnish can be
put outside as sculpture if so desired. T-shirt material works the best and is easy
to get at most second hand stores.

Journalfest

Journalfest at Fort Worden starts October 21-October 25...There are some very cool
classes. Ty and I are teaching two classes. On Thursday we are teaching "Cover Stories"
and on Friday we are teaching "Alternative Journalling" In Alternative Journalling
we will be learning Pop-UPs, Stencilling, Cut-out windows,Making Flaps, See thrus,
and More. For Cover Stories class we will be making 3-D covers with many different
objects, metal,leather,plastic....designing your own cover.

We just got back from Fiberfest...We had such a great time. We took a transfer emulsion
class taught by Carol Seibers-Strand, a nature painting class taught by Tracy and
Marilyn Huskamp, and an Art Quilt class taught by Lisa Englebrecht. Great teachers.
We stayed in 6E with Mo, Janice and Linda. I will have Ty take some pictures and
post them tomorrow.
This weekend we are having Halloween with the grandbabies Charlie and Jacob...I can
hardly wait!! We are also having a pumpkin carve in with our daughters and sons in laws. I will try to take some pictures and post them next week..

OK I have been a bad girl...I finally am going to try to upgrade my blog!! Ty and I
are workshop sluts so we have been busy taking any kind of workshop that speaks to us
which is almost everything!!
First the exciting news is we are going to be teaching at ArtFest 2009!! Yaaaay!!
We are teaching 3 classes: Mold Making 101 on thursday, Central Casting on Friday and

Ty and I took a three day glass bead class....ohhh I am so in love! I had pictures
of our first beads but we are improving! We are doing lampwork beads for our
charms for Art Fest at Port Townsend to give as our trades.
We also took a PMC class...what fun! Very expensive material but you can do
unbelievable things with this material.

Lampworking Glass Bead Class

Ty and I are taking a Glass Bead Lampworking class. It is being taught by a great Italion

instructor who speaks with a very distinct Italion accent. He may very well be your classic

stereotype of the slightly rotund, happy,effusive Italion don. I love him. His name is Raul

Granucci, website www.granuccis.com. He really knows his stuff too. We have one more class

and I am so excited about doing this work. I only burned myself twice!

Mosaic Mirrors

Ty and I took another course doing mosaic mirrors. We used glass peices not ceramic mosaic.

Our instructor was Nicala, from Ruby Dog Art class. We really enjoyed it. Ty's is the blue

green landscape and mine is the mosaic type with yellow, orange and red.

Ty and I took a Beading Knit class. We learned 3 techniques on how to deal with adding beads.
The class was taught at 3 Bags Full, a knitting shop in Vancouver, BC. Our instructor was
Sivia Harding. She is a designer who works with beads in her knitting. She is a great teacher.
The white bags with the green beads and the purple bag are mine, and the white bag with the
red beads and the blue bag are Ty's.

We did some breakaway angels for the TV series "Supernatural". We didn't sculpt the Angels

but were provided with 4 different Angels that we made molds of. We cast them in breakaway

plaster. Ty did the molds,casts in breakaway plaster, I trimmed and then Ty painted them.

I don't know which episode that will show them but I think it is coming up.

Ty's and Marcia's socks

Ty and I finished our socks!! We are now having a drink to celebrate. My sock is the red,

blue, yellow one and Ty's are the green,brown, beige ones. We used Knit Picks option

needles size US 1 and Fortissima yarn. Fortissima is a self patterning yarn that is

very cool with the designs being fairly random.

Ty and I had to fabricate a "figurehead" for a model boat. I sculpted the "winged woman"

in a stylized way to emulate the wooden, primative carving of ships figureheads. Ty did

a mold and cast it in a quick plastic. It's 3 inches high.

Felted Osman Technique Carpets

These are pictures of a Felting Workshop that Rebecca Lavell organized. She brought Teresa
May-O'Brien who taught the Turkish Osman technique. This is a method of making carpets
trapping muslin in between layers and using roving for outlining designs. We did everything
by hand and had such a good time. It was a 3 day workshop so we stayed at the Fenn lodge
and had these wonderful gourmet meals. You can see me designing my rug and the other
rug with close ups is Tys.

Antique Teddy Bear from Hell

Ty and I took an Antique Teddy Bear Class. The Teddy Bear with the beard and eyebrows

is Ty's and the other is mine. Our instructor Barbara was great and we really enjoyed the

class. I wanted to put them in interesting positions kind of like the Kama Sutra but I thought

that might be too porno and the Teddy Bear Police might come after me. My Goddess we did

have fun.

Ty and I took a Teddy Bear Construction class. These are the Teddy Bears that we made.

They have movable joints and are constructed with very expensive mohair material and

polyfil. Mine is the brown one and Ty's is the gray one.
